As I mentioned in my previous restaurant review, the chefs of WHE are now on a mission to help you not only with your in-home dining, but to help you while out and about! Each chef will be blogging about their personal restaurant experiences and sharing what to eat for which type of diet and what their personal favorites are. Here is another restaurant I was able to visit this week that I think all of you will enjoy. I visited another local favorite in Newport Beach this week, Louie’s by the Bay. This exquisite waterfront restaurant is a must to try if you’re looking for a healthy dinner while entertaining in or out of town guests, or just looking for a night out away from your kitchen. I wanted to try a few of their delicious plates so I could have a sense of their presentation, their ingredients and overall offering to their guests. I started with their Lobster Salad, which was larger than I imagined and could have been an entrée meal or shared. There was plenty of lobster and it was served with light citrus vinaigrette that tasted great. This is an excellent choice for most diet plans out there. I also ordered their Octopus appetizer, which was served with squid ink infused pasta. While this is definitely a treat, it is higher in carbs. The flavors were heavenly and the meat was prepared just right. For my main dish, I tried their Osso Buco (an Italian dish made with Veal Shank containing marrowbone, stewed in wine) that was served on a bead of risotto. The risotto makes this dish higher in carbs but it tasted delicious.
Little tips when visiting this restaurant – SHARE! The portions are ample and plenty to be shared with your group. I would suggest ordering the Entrée and adding vegetables to the side and skip the appetizers OR alternatively, order the appetizer and the salad to share. I’ve found with eating out is sticking to your portion control so you maintain not over eating. I’ve also noticed a lot of entrees do not come with vegetables and have to be ordered separately or substituted. So when dining out, do not be afraid to speak up to your waiter on what you’re looking for and what you need to keep in line with your specific diet. Remember eating healthy doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy going out and tasting amazing foods at restaurants, it just means being conscious of what is on the menu and making sure you’re getting the nutrients you need to keep you healthy everyday.
