As part of keeping up with the latest food trends, I love to go out and experience fine dining in this beautiful city I call home. I always want to be able to give my clients feedback of where they can maintain their clean eating habits while dining out and where to splurge, but not completely abandon their clean diet. More restaurants are becoming aware of different diet trends and it’s always nice to be able to walk into a restaurant and feel you can enjoy it without feeling like you’re being the picky guest asking for too many changes on a specific dish. It’s also great to find healthy items on the menu that are low carb and delicious and fit my preferred diet plan. The chefs of WHE are now on a mission to help you not only with your in-home dining, but to also help you while out and about! Each chef will be blogging about their personal restaurant experiences and sharing what to eat for which type of diet and what their personal favorites are. Stay tuned! This week I visited the Mayor’s Table @ Lido House in Newport Beach ... Out of the 7 items I tasted, the best ones that stood out were the Smoked Salmon Tartare Appetizers and their Savory Lamb Chops. The salmon not only tasted great and fresh, but the way they presented it under a dome with smoke inside added that extra touch. The salmon itself was actually raw (which is what tartare means), not smoked or cured. My main reason for choosing this appetizer was that it was light, low carb, with just a few thin crisps, and it was low in sodium because it was not cured. As a lamb lover, I had to try to the lamb. The Savory Lamb Chops came out on a puree of goat cheese with curry seasoning and toasted crushed almonds. The only downside to this savory dish was the lack of vegetables. I would have liked it to have a nice bed of green vegetables, but it only had a few roasted carrots. Of course, ordering a side of veggies for the table was an option, or a salad, but overall the portions are much too large when you get into adding on so many dishes. A big part of eating healthy while out is portion control.
Overall, I recommend this restaurant, not just for the ambience and excellent service but for the healthy options they provide for your everyday healthy eating. Visit the Mayor's Table and comment below with your own review!
