Health & Wellness: Don’t forget about your skin by Chef Dylan

As we approach the second week of the new year, many of us have chosen to be active and eat better for our New Years resolution but what does that really mean? Activity and whole food diets are very important for not only our overall health inside our bodies but our skin as well. Your diet can directly affect your skin just as much, if not more, than the rest of your body. While some forms of Eczema have to do with contact, stress and diet can cause inflammation and red patches as well. Here are just a few tips that I have learned to help minimize Eczema and Psoriasis.

  1. Red Meats: Red meats have high amounts of  arachidonic acid that has been shown to increase inflammation. If you must eat red meats, make sure they are very lean like bison.
  1. Dairy: Dairy, especially cows milk, has the same arachidonic acid that promotes inflammation. If you must eat dairy, try low fat or RAW dairy
  2. Processed Foods: Usually high in sugars and salts to maximize the shelf life and keep the cost down. Diets high in sugar and salt have been linked to flare ups.

I have lived with light Eczema for my whole life. These few tips have helped me manage my
condition. As with most health issues, a diet rich in fruits, veggies and whole foods will always help.
