My husband and I welcomed our first son eight months ago! Knowing I would have limited time for much of anything after the baby made his debut, I decided research which foods would provide the best nutrition for my postpartum recovery.
In my efforts to make our lives as easy as possible, (for a couple with a newborn!) I went the extra step and planned to cook and freeze some meals that incorporated some of these ingredients:
The foods listed above contain key nutrients that support hormonal health and help tissue to heal. Healthy fats fuel breastmilk production and metal stamina. Soups made with bone broth provide protein and collagen and help hydrate.
Now that my baby is a little older, I’m able to spend more time in the kitchen. I continue to make batches of chicken and beef bone broth in our Instapot to have on hand for soups. I soak and cook dried beans, then freeze in quart containers for easy sides (my little one loves mashed black beans too!)
Every morning I try to start the day with a bowl of organic oats topped with banana, flax and pumpkin seeds, blueberries and a drizzle of coconut oil and maple syrup. Doing my best to incorporate these foods into my diet has been my way of practicing a little self-care every day!
