My name is Stephen Hanna, owner of Black Mountain Fitness in Cave Creek. The gym has been in existence since 1995 and in its current location since the El Palenque building was built in 2000. I purchased the gym in October 2020 and have tried to keep the small community gym “vibe” that the customers love – or so they tell me.
I was a police officer for many years in a northern suburb of Chicago but was injured on duty. The injury required me to have three spinal surgeries in two years. The aftermath of these surgeries meant I spent many hours in rehabilitation facilities and gyms to try to get back to work. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case. The time spent rehabbing gave me a deep understanding and appreciation of the need to maintain a healthy and fit body no matter your age or current lifestyle. Its never too late to make a change. I became a member of BMF when I moved from Illinois because I liked the overall atmosphere of it compared to the big box gyms I had tried before.
Since becoming the owner I have surrounded myself with trainers who have many years in the industry who have guided me along the way. Equipment has been updated and I believe the gym is kept up to a very high standard of cleanliness. There is an electrostatic sprayer, donated by one of the members, which provides hospital level sanitation and disinfecting. There are disinfecting stations across the gym floor, and we encourage the users to wipe equipment before and after use.
The trainers at BMF have years of experience and offer 30-, 45- or 60-minute personal training sessions designed around their clients needs, lifestyles and ultimate goals. Obviously, they cannot change the person unless the person puts in the work themselves. I believe BMF fosters a positive community atmosphere that makes it easier for someone to continue to enjoy their workouts. I like to think of BMF as the “Cheers” of gyms where everyone knows your name. I try to greet the regulars by name. Many people have been coming here for years and BMF is part of the social life for them and their friends.
Join us and learn how to live a strong, healthy, and balanced life. Your health and wellness are our priority. We look forward to seeing you. I would like to invite you to stop in for a free workout session at BMF. It’s the best kept secret in the heart of Cave Creek.
See you at the gym
