Get to know our new chef Jeni in this interview where she shares her inspirations, health advice, and how she eats as a chef.
What inspired you to get into health and wellness cooking?
Once I was introduced to the concept of using food as a preventive medicine, I was fascinated and once I realized that the idea of food as medicine is not widely known, I was driven to make that difference. I love the idea of becoming completely in tune with the body and nourishing it from the inside out!
What is most rewarding to you about your profession?
The most rewarding part about cooking is taking such an essential aspect of our daily lives and personalizing it to each individual based on their specific needs and desires. I love really getting to know my clients and assisting them along on their health and wellness goals.
What types of clients/diets do you cook for?
My culinary strengths currently reside in cooking for vegetarian, vegan, Mediterranean, and Whole30 diets.
How do you personally eat?
I primarily eat a Mediterranean diet with anything outside of those constraints very sparingly. I save splurges for when I go out exploring in LA or Orange Country for more “trendy” restaurants when I feel a little more daring.
What tips/advice would you give to someone trying to achieve optimal health?
Achieving optimal health is a life-long and dynamic project that everyone deserves to participate in. The definition of “optimal health” is personalized to each individual, but always encompasses physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and social well being. It might seem like a daunting process at first, but starting off with small steps, a plan in mind, and a little help from a friend (me!), anything can be achieved.
